High consumption of unhealthy food products has contributed to rising rates of diet-related non-communicable diseases globally. Front-of-pack labelling (FOPL) policies have emerged as an effective tool to provide consumers with clear information about the nutritional content of the foods they purchase at-a-glance tool to help consumers quickly identify foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.
This policy is also to prevent misleading claims made by food industry actors about food nutritional content and encourage the reformulation of packaged food products.
Ghana’s current labeling frameworks often lack this. Poor consumer understanding of existing food labels present the urgent need for simple FOPL policies, including warning labels for high-risk products and positive logos for healthier options.
